The Inver Women crashed out of the NIWFA Cup with a 6-0 defeat against a strong Lisburn Rangers Ladies side, who boast an impressive unbeaten campaign.
Despite the scoreline, the Inver Women had their fair share of chances in the game, having gone into the contest missing a number of first team regulars.
In fact it was the visitors who had the first chance of the game, with in-form Francesca Agnew through on goal but her shot was well saved.
Ten minutes into the game Lisburn Rangers went 1-0 up as Eve Reilly fired into the roof of the net from the 6-yard line. Five minutes later the Lisburn side got their second, as Sophie O’Rawe’s initial shot from all of 50 yards out was well saved by Leanne Glass. From the resulting corner, Larne seemingly cleared the danger, but this time O’Rawe shot from the halfway line and it found the back of the net.
The Inver Women then had a free-kick which Rebecca Boyce took to find Francesca Agnew, but her shot was saved and allowed the home side to go on the attack. A quick break saw Eve Reilly grab her second of the game before half-time, to make it 3-0 at the break.
From the restart Rangers got their fourth almost immediately, with the ball finding Sophie Megaw who slotted past Glass for their fourth of the game.
On the hour mark it was five. Aimee McKenzie aimed to pass the ball back to Glass but the ball instead found the back of the net, resulting in an unfortunate own goal.
With seconds remaining the referee awarded a penalty for handball against Rebecca Boyce.
Caoimhe Mulholland stepped up to smash he ball into the net past Glass, concluding the game with 6-0 win for the home side.
A disappointing result for the Inver Women, however on a more positive note they are only the second team to stop the Lisburn side hitting double figures. They went into the game with a number of young players in their side, with Alyssa Geoghegan handed her first team debut starting at right back and Hannah Massey coming on for the final 30 minutes up front.
