MATCH PREVIEW

In what is one of the most-anticipated clashes on matchday two of the League Phase of the UEFFA Conference League, it promises to be a fantastic occasion at the National Stadium this evening as Larne take on Shamrock Rovers.

Tonight will mark the first time the two sides have ever met in a competitive clash.

Both sides are currently champions of their domestic leagues, with Shamrock Rovers having won four League of Ireland titles in a row while Larne are the current back-to-back champions of the NIFL Premiership.

Domestically, both sides come into tonight’s European clash at different stages of their league campaigns. Shamrock Rovers face an intriguing battle to retain their title with three games remaining, as they currently sit 3rd in the standings and are locked in a title race alongside Derry City, Shelbourne and St Patrick’s Athletic as they look to retain their crown.

Tiernan Lynch’s side on the other hand have played just nine league games so far in their pursuit of three in a row and have a look way to go in the campaign to retain their champions status.

In matchday one of the League Phase, Larne travelled to Norway to face Molde and put in a proud performance on the night, holding out until the 51st minute before Molde took control and went on to win the game 3-0.

Shamrock Rovers faced APOEL on matchday one and came away with a 1-1 draw, an impressive result after going down to ten men early on in the game.

Tiernan Lynch has no fresh injury concerns to worry about ahead of tonight’s game, with those who have been carry knocks in recent weeks expected to miss out (Leroy Millar, Aaron Donnelly and George Marsh). Conor McKendry is suspended for tonight’s game following his red card out in Molde on matchday one.

Stephen Bradley’s side are expected to be without defender Sean Hoare due to injury while fellow defender Neil Farrugia is suspended for tonight’s game.
