Two For Houston in Celtic Defeat

LARNE LADIES travelled to the Valley Leisure Centre to take on Belfast Celtic Ladies on Friday night for their first friendly of pre-season, where they went down 5-4 to the higher league opposition.

The Inver Women took time to gel, and found themselves two goals down in the first half. However, Girls Football Development programme graduate, Elle Houston halved the deficit when her deflected shot found the net.

There was a blow for Larne in the build up to the goal, however, as Georgia Crawford sustained a fractured fibula which may rule her out of the start of the season in April.

Larne fell 3-1 behind before half time, but there was a marked improvement after the break.

Houston helped herself to her second goal of the night, with an exquisite chip over the keeper.

The exchange of goals continued when Celtic restored the two goal lead almost immediately. Hannah Robinson just about pulled it back to 4-3 by rounding the keeper and squeezing the ball past the post.

Celtic went 5-3 in front, before Jenny Montgomery pulled it back to 5-4 with a clever finish with the last kick of the game.

The Inver Women’s next friendly is on Wednesday night where they play Lurgan Ladies.
