SUPERCUP NI ROUND-UP: DAY TWO

With the SuperCup NI now heading into it’s third day, take a read below to see how our teams and players fared in day two of the competition.

After a narrow defeat to Surf Select on the opening day of the tournament, our 2010/11 came up against American opposition again on day two in the form of FC America. Putting in a strong performance, the girls recorded their first win and clean sheet of the tournament with a 2-0 victory. Annarose Robinson and Ella Kitson scored the goals in the win and the side will now look forward to their final group game against Linfield later this afternoon at 1:30pm in Monkstown.

JUNIOR SECTION

After an opening day defeat for Alfie Mulvenna and his Glasgow Rangers side, the team were looking to bounce back against FC America in their second game at the competition. Alfie and his teammates went on to pick up their first victory in the tournament with a 3-1 win and they will be looking to build on that later this afternoon in their final group game against St Patrick’s Athletic.

In Group C, our six representatives for the Co. Antrim side looked to build on their thrilling opening day victory over Blackburn Rovers. Coming up against Co. Tyrone, the side made it two wins from two with an emphatic 8-2 victory. Academy player Jamison Rainey stole all of the headlines, scoring a hat-trick to pick the side top of the group going into today’s final group game. The Co. Antrim side face American side DME Football at 2.30pm this afternoon in Bushmills.

Daniel Hasim’s Co. Down side made it two wins from two in the group stages yesterday, as they followed up their opening day victory against Zach O’Hara’s Co. Armagh side with a 2-0 victory over Charlton Athletic. After opening day defeat, Zach O’Hara’s Co. Armagh side got their first point in the group stage with a thrilling 3-3 draw against Glasgow Celtic.

After opening day defeat to West Ham United for Tomas O’Kane and his Co. Londonderry side, the team secured their first victory on day two with a 1-0 scoreline against St Francis. In their final group game this afternoon, Tomas O’Kane’s Co. Londonderry side take on Stevenage at Anderson Park with a 2:30pm kick-off.

PREMIER SECTION

After a narrow opening day defeat to Co. Armagh, Barry McKervey, Zak Robinson, Alex McAllister and Jamie McIntyre hoped to help the rest of their Co. Antrim teammates bounce back with a victory in day two of the competition.

Zak, Alex and Jamie all started the second game of the tournament as the team came up against Japanese side Shoshi High School. After falling 1-0 behind, the team completed the comeback to secure a 2-1 victory and get their first points in the group ahead of today’s final game. The Co. Antrim side face Middlesbrough at the Coleraine Showgrounds at 7pm.

Alex Eakin’s Co. Armagh side followed up their opening day victory against Co. Antrim with a draw against Middlesborough yesterday. The match finished with a 2-2 scoreline and leaves the group finely poised ahead of today’s final fixtures, as Alex and his Co. Armagh side prepare to take on Shoshi High School.

After defeat to Glasgow Rangers on the first day of the tournament, Matthew Hayman and his Co. Tyrone side were aiming to pick up their first points in day two. Up against Scottish opposition once again in the form of Hamilton Accies, Matthew and his side picked up a 3-1 victory to take into their final group game this evening in Broughshane against Otago.
