SuperCup NI round-up: Day three

The group stages of the SuperCup NI came to an end yesterday as teams battled it out to get vital points on the board ahead of the next stage of the tournament. Take a read below to see how our teams and players fared on day three of the tournament.

The final group game for our 2010/11 girls team saw them come up against familiar opponents in Linfield FC. After a win in day two over FC America, the girls produced another great performance as they ran out 5-0 winners against Linfield to secure 2nd place in the group and progress to the SuperCup NI final against Surf Select on Friday. Annarose Robinson followed up Tuesday’s goal with a hat-trick in yesterday’s emphatic victory while Darcy Grayson and Ella Kitson also got on the scoresheet. The SuperCup NI final against Surf Select will take place at Dixon Park tomorrow, with an 11am kick-off.

JUNIOR SECTION

With one victory and one defeat so far, Alfie Mulvenna and his Glasgow Rangers side faced St Patrick’s Athletic in their final group game on Wednesday afternoon. The side weren’t able to build on Tuesday’s victory and suffered a 3-1 defeat which saw them finish third in their group. Alfie and his teammates will now face Celtic later this afternoon in the SCNI Vase semi-final at Scroggy Road with a 3pm kick-off.

In Group C, our six representatives in the Co. Antrim team were in a good position heading into their final group game after two wins out of two so far. The side took on DME Football yesterday and in a tight encounter, the match finished level with a 1-1 scoreline which secured top spot in the group for Co. Antrim.

Daniel Hassim’s Co. Down side continued their unbeaten run in the tournament so far yesterday afternoon as they secured a 1-1 draw with Glasgow Celtic in their final group game. The result sees the side finish top of the group on 7 points. In the same group. Zach O’Hara’s tournament came to an unfortunate end on Tuesday afternoon after he suffered a broken wrist while representing Co. Armagh. Still searching for their first victory at the tournament, Zach’s side faced Charlton Athletic in their final group game but suffered a 3-0 defeat which saw them finish 4th in the group.

Tomas O’Kane’s Co. Londonderry side were looking to follow up their victory on day two with another one in their final group game against Stevenage. The side did just that, running out 2-1 winners at Anderson Park to finish 2nd in their group ahead of the next stage.

PREMIER SECTION

With a defeat and a victory so far in the tournament, Barry McKervey, Zak Robinson, Alex McAllister and Jamie McIntyre were looking to finish the group stages off with another victory for their Co. Antrim side.

The final group game saw them come up against Middlesborough at the Coleraine Showgrounds with Zak Robinson and Barry McKervey both starting the game. The Co. Antrim side ran out 2-0 winners thanks to a goal in each half to see them finish 2nd in the group. The side will now face the challenge of Co. Londonderry later this afternoon in the SCNI Globe semi-final which is taking place at Parker Avenue at 4pm.

Elsewhere in Group A, Alex Eakin and his Co. Armagh side looking to continue their unbeaten start to the tournament after a win and a draw so far. Alex’s side came up against Shosi High School in their final group game and ran out 1-0 winners in a victory that saw them finish top of Group A and set up a showdown with Co. Down in the semi-final of the SuperCup NI tonight at the Coleraine Showgrounds.

After a victory over Hamilton Accies on day two of the tournament, Matthew Hayman and his Co. Tyrone side were looking to finish the group stages with another three points as they prepared to take on Otago. Matthew’s side suffered an unfortunate 1-0 defeat which saw them finish 4th in the group and they will now face Middlesborough in the SCNI Bowl semi-final at the Coleraine Showgrounds later on this morning.
