SuperCup NI: Finals Day

It’s finals day at the SuperCup NI with a number of our teams and representatives in action as the tournament comes to an end.

After an impressive group stage, our 2010/11 girls team are preparing for the SuperCup NI final this morning as they take on Surf Select at Dixon Park. The match will kick-off at 11am.

JUNIOR SECTION

After finishing third in Group A, Alfie Mulvenna’s Rangers side came up against familiar foes in the SCNI Vase semi-final, facing Glasgow Celtic at Scroggy Road yesterday afternoon. After an entertaining match, Alfie’s Rangers side came out on the wrong end of the scoreline, suffering a 5-2 defeat. The side will now take on St Francis this afternoon at The Heights in the SCNI play-off.

With an impressive group stage under their belt, finishing top of Group C, our six representatives in the Co. Antrim squad faced a tough test in the SuperCup NI semi-final as they came up against Premier League opposition in West Ham United. Jude Crawford captained the side as they battled back from 2-1 down to score a last-minute equaliser. The game went to penalties and the Co. Antrim side suffered shoot-out heartbreak as the Hammers progressed to the final. The Co. Antrim side will face St Patrick’s Athletic in the SuperCup NI play-off this afternoon at Castlerock.

After going unbeaten and topping Group B, Daniel Hassim’s Co. Down side found themselves up against St Patrick’s Athletic in the SuperCup NI semi-final. Daniel’s side ran out 2-1 winners and will now face West Ham United at the Coleraine Showgrounds this afternoon in the SuperCup NI final. After his unfortunate injury, Zach O’Hara missed out as his Co. Armagh side took on Stevenage in the SCNI Bowl semi-final. Running out 4-1 winners, the side will now take on FC America in the final at Kells this afternoon.

A county derby awaited Tomas O’Kane and his Co. Londonderry side as they faced Co. Fermanagh in the SCNI Globe semi-final. Tomas’s side ran out comfortable 3-0 winners which has set up a final against Charlton Athletic later this afternoon at Anderson Park.

PREMIER SECTION

After a 2nd place finish in Group A, Co. Londonderry in the SCNI Globe semi-final was the next challenge for Barry McKervey, Zak Robinson, Alex McAllister and Jamie McIntyre.

After suffering a 2-0 defeat, the side will now prepare for their final game of the tournament this morning as they take on Hamilton Accies in the SCNI play-off at Scroggy Road.

Alex Eakin and his Co. Armagh topped Group A and faced the challenge of Co. Down in the semi-final of the SuperCup NI. Securing a 3-1 victory at the Coleraine Showgrounds, Alex and his side will now face Premier League opposition in the form of Brighton in the SuperCup NI final tonight at the Coleraine Showgrounds.

Matthew Hayman’s Co. Tyrone side finished 4th in Group E which set up a SCNI Bowl semi-final clash against Middlesborough yesterday afternoon.

After suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat, Matthew’s Co. Tyrone side will now face Otago at the Limavady Showgrounds in the SCNI Bowl play-off.
