We can confirm that Tiernan Lynch’s squad will make the trip to Scotland next month, taking on SPFL League Two side Stranraer FC at Stair Park on Saturday 22nd June.
Whilst the exact afternoon kick-off time is still to be confirmed, Larne supporters will no doubt be delighted that the once regular pre-season encounter has returned with a fantastic day out guaranteed.
Those planning to make the trip across the Irish Sea for the game have the opportunity to ‘Cruise with the Champions’, courtesy of an activation event between the club and Platinum Partners P&O Ferries.
The ‘Cruise with the Champions’ sailing will depart Larne at 08.00 with the first team squad and Gibson Cup on board for photo opportunities, alongside the full availability of on-board facilities including the canteen and bar. The return sailing will then leave Cairnryan at 20.00.
To make things even better, P&O Ferries will be offering Larne supporters the opportunity to obtain 50% off return travel for each foot passenger, with a discount code to be made available within the coming week.
Next month’s pre-season clash will be the first time the Invermen have faced Stranraer since June 2017, in what was manager Tiernan Lynch’s first-ever game in charge of the club.
At the turn of the century, pre-season fixtures between both sides would have been a regular occurrence, with each club taking turns at hosting its opponents’ players, directors and supporters in preparation for the new season. Most memorably, the teams played out an enthralling 4-4 draw to the joy of supporters at Inver Park in July 2008, Adam Dick (3) and Gary Rafferty scoring Larne’s goals on the day.
Last weekend, Stranraer confirmed their SPFL League Two survival with a dramatic extra-time victory over East Kilbride in the second leg of their promotion/relegation play-off.
