THIS week’s supporters club spotlight focuses on the Larne N.I.S.C. On this week’s episode we have been speaking to Derek McWhirter, who is the chairman of the Larne N.I.S.C, to gather his views about his club and the upcoming season for the Inver Reds.

Derek McWhirter – Larne N.I.S.C

When and how was your club formed?

Our club was formed in March 1996, some people from the town had been going to N.I. matches themselves while some of us had been going on a bus run by Tommy Surgenor, so we decided there was a need for a Supporters Club in the town so we could all travel together. The club was formed in March (1996) in Larne Football Club and we travelled to our 1st away fixture in October to Germany.

What is your favourite away trip with the supporter’s club?

I would have to say Crusaders away would be my favourite trip. The ground is quite compact with home and away supporters quite close together which adds to the atmosphere.

What are your thoughts on the upcoming season?

After a very successful 1st season back in the Premiership gaining a top six spot and with this experience now behind the management and players, with the addition of a few new faces, I feel that we could be pushing for the European spots.

How do you become a member of your club?

We open our books as a club after every international campaign has ended which is every two years. However, we also run a travel membership for Larne games which has proved very popular. The travel club can be joined at any time and we have committed to run a bus to all away games.
