Spotlight on…Bodega Reds

THERE are now a number of Supporter’s Clubs in the town who are actively getting behind Tiernan Lynch’s men.

In the first of a new series, we have been in touch with members of each of these to get more information about their club and their own thoughts on the upcoming season for the Inver Reds.

First up, we have David McCormick from the Bodega Reds to share his thoughts and opinions.

David McCormick – Bodega Reds

When and how was your club founded?

The Bodega Reds was formed in 2019 and was the brainchild of Larne fanatic Gary Peoples. Gary had been planning to create a new supporters club for quite a while and he put processes in place towards the end of the Championship winning season 2018/2019. Despite facing some scepticism Gary put in huge amounts of time and work to get the club up and running.

Throughout this time a committee was established. Support and guidance were provided by all committee members, and in particular from Davy Wilson. The club has gone from strength to strength with membership growing and full buses travelling to away matches. The support the club has received from its members has also enabled them to sponsor players, match balls and match day games. The club also aims to provide support to the Larne Football Club ‘family’ beyond football such as organising a pool competition to raise funds for the family of former Larne player Jerry Thompson.

What is your favourite away trip with the supporter’s club?

The best away day with the supporter’s club to date would probably be our trip to Shamrock Park, when we were closing in on the Championship Title. There was a great atmosphere on the bus and in the ground, so I am glad to see Portadown promoted back to the Premiership.

What are your thoughts on the upcoming season?

The expectations for the upcoming season would be a title challenge. I do not think we are too far away. The likes of Linfield have five or six goalscorers in their squad whereas we have three. Hopefully, we can strengthen in this area over the summer and I think we will be close.

How do you become a member of your club?

To join the club, you can contact the Bodega Reds’ Facebook page or directly get in touch with one of the committee members. The club is still relatively new and is looking to grow even bigger and better over the coming seasons. An aim of the club is to do whatever we can to financially support the football team and by becoming a member you can help us achieve this.
