DUNDELA were thumped 5-0 at home by Championship winners Larne as Tiernan Lynch’s charges put in a ruthless display at Wilgar Park.

Ben Tilney, Dom Tear, David McDaid, Martin Donnelly and David Scullion all scored one apiece on an afternoon where Dundela slipped to fourth in the table.

The hosts started the game brightly and came close within the first ten minutes as William Bingham made a sterling run down the right wing and found Owain Beggs in the box. He laid it off to Carl McComb,  with a defender blocking his shot.

The away side took the lead with David McDaid’s deflected effort intercepted by Ben Tilney who duly slotted home on 27 minutes. Larne were through again five minutes later when the hosts gifted McDaid possession, and this time he played through Dom Tear, but the midfielder’s low shot was agonisingly wide of the near post.

It was the Huddersfield loanee who made it 2-0 nine minutes from the break, as McDaid played Tilney out wide and his goal-bound effort was tapped in by the young midfielder.

Karl Devine came close for the home side on the stroke of half time as he fired wide of goal.

Early in the second half, Tomas Cosgrove won possession from Dundela and, with an incisive pass through into the area, McDaid fired the ball into the bottom corner to put the Invermen in firm control at 3-0.

It could have been 4-0 with nine minutes left, substitute Martin Donnelly lofting the ball to David Scullion with Jonathan Sergeant making an excellent reaction save to deny him.

The visitors did however score their fourth of the afternoon on 83 minutes as Donnelly sent a sweetly struck free-kick floating into the bottom left.

Number five came in the second minute of stoppage time as Donnelly’s speculative long-range effort crashed off the crossbar with Scullion tucking away from close range to complete the rout.
