Phil McNamara has left Larne Football Club Women.
After securing their top-flight status, the backroom team expanded with the addition of new Head Coach Phil McNamara in February 2024. Having turned out for Larne in his own playing career, Phil brought a wealth of experience having coached over five hundred games in the US Collegiate women soccer system.
His experience and connections with US scholarship programmes saw several recruits from state-side join the Inver Reds. Playing a crucial role in raising the standards around the squad, his insight and professionalism brought a new edge to the team, being able to develop players and help enhance the player pathways at the club.
In a difficult 2024 season, Larne finished eight out of nine teams, which saw them securing another season in the Premiership with the league being reduced to eight teams for the 2025 season.
With Phil leaving the team, Andrew Scullion, Women’s Football Director, had this to say of his departure:
“We are grateful to Phil for his contribution this year, which saw us retain our Premiership status. Phil joined the club quite late into pre-season but brought a different voice into our coaching team. He was integral to bring the US college players to the club which allowed us to see how close we could get to the leading teams in the division. We wish Phil all the best with his future endeavours.”
Larne would like to thank Phil for his dedication and work with the women’s side and wish him the best for his future.
The club will make an announcement in regards to management team within the coming days.
