We are pleased to announce the signing of Melissa Storey, who has joined from Texas A&M University-Commerce for the 2024 Sports Direct Premiership season, subject to international clearance.
Originally from Tyne and Weir in England, Storey came through the Sunderland RTC pathway before spending two years at WPL Division One side Durham Cestria.
Following her time in Durham, the versatile midfielder made the switch to the United States and has since spent four seasons playing university soccer in Texas and has achieved all conference honours during her time there.
Discussing her move to the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership, Storey said:
“I am really excited to make my way over to Northern Ireland and play in the NI Football League this summer. I can’t wait to arrive in Larne, to meet my teammates and coaches and to get started in a new league.
“Over the past four years in Texas I have learnt and developed my game so much and I can’t wait to put my skills to the test in this new challenge that is playing senior football in Northern Ireland.”
Upon confirming the signing, William Noble said:
“Melissa is another of several high-profile signings which we have been working hard to get across the line ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline and I’m delighted to welcome her to the club.
“As a player she is a versatile midfielder who has played at a really strong level out in the United States and the coaching team believe that she will add real quality to our squad and support the players already at the club in building on the strong foundations laid out over the past number of seasons.
“In terms of recruitment and building towards Sunday’s opening game, we continue to work hard with at least another four signings to come ahead of tomorrow’s deadline and I believe that supporters should be excited for what is to come this season.”
Storey will wear the number 11 shirt for the duration of the 2024 season.
