Mayor recognises Club’s efforts to bring lockdown relief

LARNE Football Club are proud to have hosted the Mayor of Mid & East Antrim, Peter Johnston, at Inver Park last week and to be presented with a certificate of recognition for our recent work within the local community.

Over the past number of months, our first team players have volunteered their time to support the efforts of local community groups by delivering food parcels to those affected by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

On Friday 16th October, the Mayor visited Inver Park accompanied by Cllr Gregg McKeen to present the certificate, which was accepted by Tiernan Lynch and Jeff Hughes on behalf of our Club.

Delighted to have received such recognition, our Chairman, Gareth Clements said “Although it is fantastic to receive this recognition from the Mayor, our work in the community is taken simply as a matter of course.

“We have never hidden the fact that as much as our journey was about building a football club, it was about building a town and it’s sense of community, with a football club at the heart of everything good within it.

“We strongly believe we try to cover this in every action we take on a daily basis.

“Make no mistake, Covid-19 has been and continues to have an effect on most of our every day lives.

“Our support during lockdown of local community groups, hot meals or towards food parcels only showed empathy and understanding towards what our people were going through.

“I believe the whole town deserves a huge pat on the back for the way it rallied together in these times of trouble. It really showed all that’s good about our fantastic town and it’s people.

“We receive this recognition proudly on behalf of the people who support us week in, week out.”
