Match Report

An impression introduction for new Inver Red as Erin Montgomery bags a win and hat trick for the Larne away to Lisburn.

Visting the Bluebell Stadium the Inver Women came off a good run of form before the break and a strong performance against Glentoran Women in the cup, albeit the scoreline, to face off against Lisburn Ladies.

Former Lisburn Rangers player, Erin, made her presence known on the pitch, cutting through the defence to be finally rewarded with a looping free kick on the half hour mark. It was Larne’s game with them controlling possession, but in the last minutes of the first half Morgan Shannon got the better of Larne with a long ball over the keeper.

Going into the second half level, Larne could look back at the game and see how far they’ve came already. From their previous games against Lisburn not going their way, 5-2 and a 4-1 loss in the league and league cup respectively, the team’s game has dramatically improved.

Stacey Murdough put the home side back in front with a header in the 68th minute, with Erin equalising shortly thereafter with long range ball from the edge of the box.

With 20 minutes to go it was looking like a draw for either side, yet again in the dying moments of the game the scoreline changed with another long ball from Erin Montgomery to take all 3 points for Larne.

Deadline day signings of Bernadette Ferreira being strong all over the pitch, making herself known the opposition, Erin Montgomery getting the win for Larne, and new goalkeeper Abbier Bickerstaff stepping in for Kate Smith in the second half – Larne is a different side than they were at the start of the season.
