Match Report

Linfield Women secured a comprehensive victory at Inver Park, running out 4-0 winners against Larne Women. Linfield began the first half on the front foot, dominating possession with a patient approach toward carving out chances against the home side. As the away team’s mounting pressure continued, with a long-range effort producing the first of an excellent double save by Larne’s keeper Kate Smith, who also smothered the second close-range attempt. From the resultant corner, Ebony Leckey found space at the back post, beating the Larne defender to meet the ball on the half-volley and open the scoring in Linfield’s favour. As Linfield continued to control proceedings, a move down the left flank resulted in a low cross into the box which was once again turned home to double Linfield’s lead, Emily Reid getting on the scoresheet on this occasion.

It was more of the same in the second half, as Linfield took just five minutes to add a third goal. Another low cross created a scramble inside the box, with the ball eventually falling to Carla Devine who gave Smith no time to react in the Larne goal. The final goal of the game came by the way of a wicked deflection via a Larne defender, following a neat turn and shot from Rachel Kerr.
