Lynch scoops manager award for the third time in a row

Tiernan Lynch has been named as the Northern Ireland Football Writers Manager of the Month for a record-equalling third time in a row.

The Inver Park boss has added the December gong to go along with the October and November awards, making it a clean sweep in the 2020/21 season to date.

The Invermen enjoyed a 100% record in the final month of 2020 with the County Antrim Shield win over Glentoran, added to league victories over Glenavon and Linfield, both at Inver Park.

The Shield victory was the club’s first senior trophy in 33 years – something the boss won’t forget in a hurry.

“It was a very special night for our football club,” he said.

“My hope is it will serve as launchpad for further success,

“However, I am aware that at the end of the season we will be judged on what happens in the next four months rather than the last four months. We are now looking forward, not backwards.”

In typical humble fashion, Lynch wasn’t keen to take the plaudits for himself, despite moving into illustrious company having won the award three times in a row alongside Tommy Breslin, David Jeffrey and Oran Kearney.

“It’s an honour to join an exclusive club like that,” he added.

“A club that includes men like Tommy, Oran and David. I’d like to thank the Football Writers for picking me once again.

“However, at Larne we don’t believe in individual awards. We win or lose as a team, so this award belongs to all the players and my coaching staff.”
