DAVID McDAID’S fine run of form continued at Portadown on Saturday when he found the net with a spectacular free kick in the Inver Reds’ 2-1 win against their nearest rivals.

The goal was McDaid’s 15th of the season and his 11th in his last 9 games for Larne, an incredible run of goalscoring which gives his a real chance of catching Marty Donnelly at the head of the top goalscorers table.

Larne manager, Tiernan Lynch was quick to cite McDaid’s work rate as a reason for the quality of his recent performances, “David has been on phenomenal form at the minute.

“He’s playing on a real high and he’s absolutely working his backside off on the training park and I was delighted to see his free kick go in in front of our fans.”

The former Cliftonville front man was an obviously choice for the Northern Ireland Football Writers Association when selecting their Championship Player of the Month.

As good a season as it has been for McDaid, Tiernan Lynch reflected that it hasn’t always been easy for his number 10 this term. “He had a difficult period with injuries and he couldn’t shrug them off.

“I think he’s went injury free for a couple of months and he’s really, really showing the commitment he has to this club and this team and I think he has been absolutely immense.”
