Loan watch: Aretzis, Greer and Sloan all make competitive debuts

The January transfer window saw loan moves to NIFL clubs for three of Larne’s brightest young Academy talents.

Max Greer and Dylan Sloan are at Championship side Knockbreda for the remainder of the season, whereas Nick Aretzis is on loan at Bangor in the Premier Intermediate League.

Knockbreda are currently 9th in the Championship with 29 points from 26 games. They have been an established club in the second tier for many years and regularly came up against Larne. In the first of a new regular feature, we keep an eye on the progress of each three.

Max and Dylan have made three appearances so far, against Ballyclare Comrades, Loughgall and H&W Welders.

They both started in the recent match at home to the Welders. Knockbreda took the lead but the promotion chasing Welders bounced back and saw out a 2-1 victory.

Max (pictured) got off the mark for his loan club two weeks ago against Loughgall but unfortunately it was their only goal in a 4-1 defeat.

Next up for Knockbreda in the league is a home game against 4th placed Annagh United.

Nick Aretzis

Bangor are currently 2nd in the Premier Intermediate League (PIL) which is the 3rd tier of Northern Irish football. Larne faced Bangor in the first round of this year’s Irish Cup and won 5-0 at Clandeboye Park.

Nick Aretzis is an 18-year-old year old centre back from Australia who travelled to join Larne’s academy.

He has featured on the bench for the first team multiple times and made his league debut against Carrick Rangers in December. Nick also signed a professional contract with the club last month on Australia Day.

The young defender made his Bangor debut last weekend against Newington in a 3-2 victory. He played the full 90 minutes and put in a strong performance.

This Saturday Bangor have a top of the table clash away to league leaders Armagh City.
