Larne Youth Round-up: 24th March

Mar 24, 2023 | Womens, Youth & Academy

U15

A fantastic performance from the girls saw them come away with the win over local rivals Ballyclare. After missing a few early chances, the Inver girls took the lead through a clever finish from Alix Wilson. Larne kept up the pressure and doubled their lead via Sophie Jenkins but Ballyclare halved the deficit just before half time.

This spurred the visitors on and they grabbed an equaliser just after the break. Instead of getting their heads down, the Larne girls’ response was quite the opposite as they put Ballyclare under more pressure and were soon rewarded by flipping the game on its head again. Alix Wilson added her second before Chloe Morrow secured the victory.

Larne did not just rest on their laurels and, but for the post and some excellent saves from the Ballyclare ‘keeper, could have had more. Either way, it was a fantastic result against a side in the league above.

As well as the goal scorers, notable mentions must go to Lucy Urwin and Sophia Manning at the back who were strong all day.

U11

After an even first session, a late breakaway goal saw St Mary’s go a goal ahead just before the break. In the second session, the Larne girls got a deserved equaliser after great build-up from India put Gracie through on goal.

In the third session, St Mary’s brought the game to Larne but the girls held form and grabbed the lead through Orla. This is a lead that they held until almost the last kick of the game when they conceded an equaliser.

Amber O’Toole was the standout player this week and Larne would have had the victory if it weren’t for some excellent work by the St Mary’s ‘keeper.

2013 Red

Larne dominated Ballyclare and took the lead in the first session through Farrah and had more chances before the second quarter which were not taken.

The second session was much the same with Ballyclare starting to push but could not get past a solid performance from Rihann in goal kept them at bay. Annie doubled the Larne lead before the end of the session before excellent work from Chloe in the third won a corner which she delivered. The ball deflected into the goal off as Ballyclare defender for an own goal that sealed the win.

Emmie and Charley were excellent in midfield and controlled the game throughout.
