Larne Youth Round-up: 12th October 2023

Oct 12, 2023 | Womens, Youth & Academy

As our teams get up to speed again in the new season, we catch up with the coaches to hear how our Academy teams got on in their latest round of fixtures over the past weekend.

2013 Red & White

Larne v Glens United

Both our red and white 2013 sides joined together to take on their Glens United counterparts in a friendly. Providing tough opposition, the team gave it their all as they look to find their feet early on in the season. Ruby Noble enjoyed a great game at centre-back, giving her the nod for Player of the Match.

2013

Larne v St. Malachy’s

A tough game for the side at the weekend. The team are still finding their rhythm early in the season and know that it will take time to click and find their feet in a new league.

2012

Larne v St Malachy’s

The team produced a great performance, with plenty of good goals across a wide spread of players.

The team worked well to find their rhythm and only switched off a couple of times throughout the match. With confidence throughout the whole team, it was clear to see on the pitch with the side was tough in defence and working brilliantly in attack.

Sofia Hamill, Amber O’Toole, Gracie Hodge, Orla Curneen and Avanah McNally all got on the scoresheet, capping a brilliant performance by all.

While there are a few areas to work on, the team can take a lot of positives away from the game.

POTM: Gracie Hodge, Eryn Wilson.

2010

Larne v Civil Service Girls

After a slow start to the game, the team found themselves behind. It wasn’t until the closing stages of the first-half that the young Inver Reds started to look themselves, playing some good football and looking more comfortable on the ball.

Holly and Ellie McKnight found form and were getting shots away at goal, with the goalkeeper doing well to keep them out. Just before half-time, Ellie found the back of the net to level the scoreline.

After starting the second-half well, Ellie continued to cause trouble for the defence and was rewarded with a goal for her efforts. The team dropped off for a spell in the game, which allowed Civil Service to take control of the game with two quick goals.

The girls didn’t let their heads drop after going behind as, after a shot on target by Sophie was saved, Ellie got on the rebound to bag herself a hat trick. With a draw being a fair representation of the game, the girls go away with plenty of positives to take from the game.

POTM: Ellie McKnight and Holly McKeen.

2009

Larne v Crusaders

From defence to attack, the whole team worked well together to control the game.

In attack, the team were slightly timid with no real pressure being put on the Crusaders back line early on in the game. After a disallowed goal by Teagan, the team soon realised that they were the team in control of the game and pressed for the win.

With the game still level in the dying minutes, Anna Grace stepped up and found the back of the net to seal the victory.

POTM: Lisa Norris.

U16/U17

Larne v Comber Rec

A rock-solid performance by the team, with a full squad and plenty of changes in players and positions tried out.

Despite dominating in the first half, the only breakthrough was a great run by Alix Wison to cross to Dee Kenny to score. Nonetheless, the Comber goalkeeper made plenty of great saves to keep their side in the game.

While the opposition missed a penalty, it was Larne’s game in the second half with goals galore across the team. Dee Kenny netted four for herself, Mia Snoddy grabbed a hat-trick, with other goals coming from Zara Mahoney, Alix Wilson and Mia O’Flaherty.

POTM: Dee Kenny and Alix Wilson.
