Larne Youth Girls were busy again at the weekend as both teams had away games against Carrick Girls and Hillsborough Girls. Coach, John Haveron brings us up-to-date with the weekend games.

Under-11’s

The under-11 girls continued their fantastic start to their games programme at the weekend, after travelling to the Valley Leisure Centre on Sunday morning to play Carrick Girls.

After the successful performance, coach John Haveron said: ‘The weather was terrible but that didn’t stop the Larne girls.

“From the beginning, they put Carrick under tremendous pressure, even after the Carrick ‘keeper made three good saves in the first five minutes.

“The midfield of Lisa Norris, Annie McCann and team captain Erica Ross took control of the game and set-up chance after chance. The girls were in great scoring form again this week and there was another clean sheet for goalkeeper, Hallie Stewart. Hannah McClenaghan, a new arrival, made a great debut and Eva McKee, Gemma Stranney and Sophie Aiston continued their goal scoring run.”

Well done to Annie McCann who was named ‘Player of the Match’.

Under-12’s

On Sunday, the under-12 girls travelled to Knockbreda to take on Hillsborough Girls. Reporting on the match, John Haveron added: “The girls tried their hardest and were unlucky to get beat by a much bigger, more physical opponents. They gave 100% and worked tirelessly but it just wasn’t meant to be on the day!

“However, even with torrential rain and strong winds, nothing could dampen the girls spirit! As a team, we will learn from this game and move onto next week.”

Congratulations to Leah Pherson who received ‘Player of the Match’.
