We are delighted to announce the signing of Ali Omar, after the defender became the club’s second signing of the summer window subject to international clearance.

The 23-year-old, originally from London, arrives at Inver Park after his departure from National League side Torquay United, having spent two years at Plainmoor, making more than 50 appearances for the Devon club in that time.

Prior to his time at Torquay, Ali came through the underage teams at Queens Park Rangers, before an 18-month stint with Championship outfit Barnsley.

He now arrives at Inver Park as preparations continue to gather pace ahead of our Champions League opener against Finnish side HJK Helsinki, with Tiernan Lynch remaining active in the transfer market.

“I really happy and honoured to be here, I’d like to thank the Gaffer for giving me the chance to join the club,” Ali said.

“I’m a defender and I like to try to get on the ball where possible and break the lines. I’m really excited for this challenge, I’ve moved away from home to come here and I want to go out there and show what I can do.

“I’m really excited to know the Champions League games are coming up and it’s something every kid dreams of, to play in Europe, so I’m very excited for that and can’t wait to get going.”

Boss Tiernan Lynch is pleased to add the defender to his ranks, coming hot on the heels of Craig Farquhar, as the club get set for competitive action in just under a month’s time.

“Ali is another player we have targeted to bring to the club,” Tiernan said.

“He has the profile of the type of player we are looking for. He’s young, still developing, and comes having played professionally through his career so far, with good senior experience at National League level.

“We’re really pleased to bring him in at this relatively early stage of pre-season for him to get to know how we work and for him to get plenty of time with the squad ahead of the Helsinki game in three weeks time.”

Ali will wear the number 3 shirt at Inver Park and will be in line to make his first appearance for the club in Wednesday’s friendly at home to H&W Welders, kicking off at 7.30pm.
