CUP FINAL

LARNE 2011 1-1 GROVE UNITED (LARNE WIN 2-0 ON PENS)

After an intense warm-up for the team, we started the game in control and showed a great range of passing and awareness early on in the big game.

With the first goal seeming like it wasn’t going to fall for Larne, they finally broke the deadline as Lucie slotted home.

The second-half started much like the first, as the Larne side took control of the game and looked comfortable with their lead. However, that all soon changed as Grove United caught Larne on the counter-attack and won a free-kick which was dispatched into the top corner of the net to level the game.

The Larne side pushed for a winner but couldn’t take their chances as they passed up three good opportunities late into the game to win it. The final whistle came and the game was heading for penalties.

Lucie stepped up first in the shoot-out and showed little nerves as she calmy slotted the ball home to put Larne in front.

Grove United’s first penalty came straight back off the post, advantage Larne.

Abby was next up for the Larne side and she also showed great confidence from the spot to give her team a healthy lead.

Next up, it was Macy’s time to shine as she guessed correctly to her right to save Grove United’s penalty and win the cup!

The Larne side started the game brightly and made it the perfect start with three goals in the first fifteen minutes to settle the team down and take control of the game. After a lapse in concentration at the back, Civil Service capitalised and got one back to make it 3-1.

After a change of formation, moving to a 3-5-2 setup, the Larne side controlled the game and displayed some fantastic football and link up play, constantly created problems for the opposition.

U16/17 SBYL Cup quarter-final

Rosario 1 – 3 Larne

With the two sides currently occupying first and second in the league, this promised to be an exciting cup tie on at warm afternoon at the Olympia.

The Larne side started brightly and after just five minutes played, they found themselves with a chance to take the lead from the penalty spot after Alix was fouled. Dee stepped up to take the penalty and coolly dispatched it to give her side the lead.

After the half-time break, Rosario were intent on finding an equaliser. However, the Larne defence held firm and done well to withstand the pressure. On the counter-attack, the Larne side were able to put together some great passing plays which led to two great goals within a spell of four minutes. Dee displayed a neat turn and finish to get her second of the game, while Alix, who had won the penalty early on, showed great composure to take it round the goalkeeper and tap into the net to make it 3-0.

Both teams continued to create plenty of chances towards the end of the game. However, both defences done well to keep the scoreline as it was. Rosario did manage to get on the scoresheet late on to make it 3-1 but the Larne side saw the reminder of the game out to progress to the semi-final.

Larne 4-1 Ballyclare

With the sun shining in Newtownabbey, it was the perfect day for a game of football.

Right from the off, the Larne side showed that they were up for it as they battled well all over the pitch and created some great chances.

Darcy, Rhea and Farah displayed some great link-up play to create the opening goal of the game with Farah finishing the move off at the back post to make it 1-0. Soon after, it was two. Jessica S showed great composure with a well-taken finish after being played through on goal after some finely worked play.

Ballyclare started to come back into the game and pressed the Larne side high up the pitch, forcing them to work hard to keep their lead. The Larne side showed great resillence to overcome the pressure from Ballyclare and went on to add a third before the break. The fantastic move started with the goalkeeper and within three passes, the team had broken the Ballyclare side’s line with Farah taking the finish well to get her second of the game.

After the break, it was clear to see Ballyclare changed the game plan and made this period very hard for the Larne side. After pilling on more pressure, Ballyclare got a goal back late in the second-half to make it 3-1.

Larne didn’t let Ballyclare’s goal faze them, and after gaining control back of the game, they soon added a fourth goal. Katie and Jessie combined well to find Annie who took the finish well.

Our Player of the match was Farah, who along with her two goals, left everything on the pitch.
