Larne 2011 v Rosario

Friendly match

In what was awful conditions for a football match, the game could have been called off but went ahead. The girls didn’t let the weather dampen their spirits against a strong Rosario side with Emmie Steele getting the opening goal that drove the team to attack more, getting plenty of shots off at goal but Rosarios keeper did a great job to keep the score 2-0 at half time. In the second half, Rosario came out the stronger side and got two quick goals to level the match. After the girls regrouped from the setback, they took control of the game again and got the winner as Poppy found the back of the net.

A credit to the team for their performance in the conditions with the defence once again playing brilliantly alongside Mia who had a great game in nets. Overall, the team continue to improve and it is clear to see the development that has been made in the last few weeks.

Larne U13 4 – 1 SOPFC

After the recent bad weather, it was a relief to see no sign of rain as the game kicked off and the girls got going from the first whistle. The girls pressed high up the pitch giving the opposition no time on the ball and played some good football in the last third, which lead to the first goal. Ellie combined well with Holly, before Holly sent a rocket of a strike into the top corner. The second goal came quickly afterwards with a mistake between the opposition defence and goalkeeper as the ball rolled in from a cross.

The team started the second half the same, with the girls passing the ball well and getting plenty of shots in. Our third goal involved Ellie again who laid it off to Luci to shoot from outside the box and find the top corner of the net. Our last goal came from Holly who slotted home the ball nice from close range after the keeper palmed away a shot from Ellie. The girls at times in the second half got caught out by some good play by the opposition who failed to take their chances and some brilliant saves by stand in keeper Rhea, however the opposition got their goal with a brilliantly taken free kick that beat everyone.

Overall, it was a great performance from the team who are continuing to progress each week and are showing good signs of pressing and passing within their play.
