Sam Johnston reports from Inver Park

Larne Ladies fell to the first home league defeat of the season, when league leaders Foyle Belles made the journey down to Inver Park for a crucial promotion match on Wednesday evening.

The Inver Women started the game on top and opened the scoring 20 minutes in through top goal scorer Hannah Robinson. Her low, driven shot found the back of the net to give the Inver Women an early 1-0 lead against their promotion rivals.

On the stroke of the half-time, Foyle Belles drew the match level. Goalkeeper Shannon Rea came out pressure the visiting attacker, but she managed to send the ball beyond her to make the score level at the break.

Larne got us back underway for the second half playing some great attacking football, but despite all their chances, it was the Belles who took the lead for the first time after a well struck free kick found the back of the net.

In the dying minutes of the game Georgia Crawford has a great chance to even things up but couldn’t convert her shot, with the effort going just wide of the post.

The resulting goal kick was sent up field and eventually cleared out for a corner.

This provided one last chance in the game, and the Foyle Belles extended their lead, as Rea inadvertently punched the ball into her own net.

Helen Curneen put in a player of the match display for the home side, creating a number of great opportunities.

As for Larne’s promotion hopes, William Noble’s side must now win away to Chimney Corner and hope results go their way.
