We are delighted to announce the growth of our Chaplaincy team at the club with addition of John Fitzsimmons.
John, the pastor of Larne Elim, is a keen football fan and will provide pastoral care to the full-time Scholarship programme and Academy players and coaches throughout the club.
Club chaplain Ian Cahoon, (pictured above with John) is delighted to welcome John on board.
“Sports Chaplaincy has been growing throughout football in Northern Ireland and right across the island and it’s great to see that Chaplaincy presence also growing in our club.
“We have two year groups of full-time Scholars at the club, as well as hundreds of young players and volunteer coaches all representing the club.
“Some of the scholars have come from other parts of the world and that brings its own challenges. Everyday life and sport can also brings pressure for all of young people and coaches. Sports Chaplaincy is a Christian charity aimed at the care and welfare of everyone at our club and John coming on board gives us the opportunity to do that in a more meaningful way with Academy of our club.”
At times, Chaplaincy plays a visible with events such as the annual Act of Remembrance and Carol Service, but both John and Ian are available for anyone who would like to have a one-to-one chat over a tea or coffee, with confidentiality always guaranteed.
John, who moved to Larne last year after a spell ministering in the west of Ireland, is looking forward to getting started.
He said: I’m really looking forward to serving the staff, players & families connected with the Academy.
“I would like to thank the club for the opportunity. Life can be tough at times and we all have our struggles. Aspiring footballers are no different and have their own unique pressures. I simply hope I can bring a little support and listening ears to those who need it at times.”
Please give John a warm welcome when you see him next at matches or training throughout the Academy. If you would like to make contact with him, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
