LARNE rounded off their Bluefin Sport Championship campaign in fine style, with a 5-0 win away to Ballinamallard.

The Mallards, one week away from an Irish Cup final appearance, made a raft of changes to their line-up.

By contrast, Larne looked to finish the season strongly, determined to make it 10 wins from 11 league games in 2019.

They started on the front foot, with Dom Tear and Lee Lynch having opportunities. However, the visitors had to wait until the 29th minute minute to open the scoring, when David McDaid slotted home from 10 yards.

Marty Donnelly and Lynch both saw further efforts cleared off the line before the half-time break.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with substitute Tommy Stewart striking the post.

The second goal arrived on 64 minutes when Fuad Sule was brought down inside the box by home goalkeeper Tim Harney.

Much to the delight of the vociferous travelling support, Sule was handed the ball in a bid to get his first goal of the season. Despite a strong hand from Harney, Sule’s effort made it over the line to double the lead.

Lee Lynch then got the goal his efforts deserved, slotting in off the post from 20 yards after winning the ball in an advanced position. It was the Invermen’s 100th goal in all competitions this season.

Ten minutes from time Marty Donnelly grabbed his 24th goal of the season, when he finished at the second attempt, following some fine work on the right by Benny Igiehon.

The final goal of the season came with five minutes remaining, when Dom Tear slide Tommy Stewart in behind the defence to fire into the top corner.

All in all, a fine win to round off the season against a youthful home side, which ensured Tiernan Lynch’s men finished the season 17 points cleared of second place.

Michael Doughterty, playing his final game of distinguished career, also left with a clean sheet.
