The Trustees of the Brighter Futures Community Fund were delighted to support the Futuro Falcons Academy last month, in partnership with Kilwaughter Minerals.
Futuro Falcons Academy was founded in 2021 by a group of local coaches, offering young people the chance to get involved in football at a grassroots level.
Alongside a senior women’s team, who had also benefited from Brighter Futures’ support previously, the Academy have teams competing in the under-7 and under-15 age groups, alongside weekly training sessions at local facilities.
A grant totalling £500 was awarded, used to purchase start-up training equipment such as footballs, cones and bibs, which will allow the academy to enhance their sessions and grow as a result to cater for increasing numbers and teams to give local children another platform to take up sport.
Reflecting on the donation, Trustee John McKinstry said: “In recent years, the town’s sporting success has put Larne on the map, so we are delighted to be able to support another grassroots club in their aim to grow and provide more opportunities for young people.
“Futuro Falcons had previously came to Brighter Futures requesting support which would go on to allow them to form the town’s second women’s football team. For them to come back one year later with more plans to grow shows the hard work that has been put in to expand even further.
“The Trustees wish all of the coaches involved with the club the best of luck going forward and look forward to reviewing their success in the future.”
