We are very pleased to announce the appointments of a new Chaplain and Disability Access Officer within the club.

Taking on the role of Disability Access Officer is Claire Taggart, a current member of the Team GB Boccia Squad. Larne woman Claire has been an inspiration to many, having won gold at the 2015 Boccia European Team and Pairs Championships. She also became the first athlete from Northern Ireland to compete in the sport at Paralympic level, during the 2016 Games.

She will work with the club in an advisory role to help the us provide inclusive and accessible facilities and services.

Appointed as club Chaplain, is Rev Ian Cahoon, who will provide pastoral support to our players, staff and  club members. Ian takes up the reins from the Rev Paul Reid, with the club wishing to thank Rev Reid for his time in the role.

Speaking about her appointment Claire said: “I’m thrilled to have been asked to come on board at Larne FC as the Disability Access Officer.

“Larne FC has come a long way in the past few years and it’s great that they are being inclusive for all supporters. If any has any issues they would like to raise with me in this area, I’d love to hear from you. You can get me on ctaggart830@hotmail.co.uk”

Meanwhile Ian, who is also the club’s Head of Media, has also spoken about his delight fulfilling the Chaplain’s duties.

He said: “My role as Chaplain is to provide a listening ear and pastoral support in complete confidence, for anyone who would like it. That goes for anyone connected to the club – board, management, players, supporters or anyone involved in the academy.

“If you fall into that category please have a word with me on a matchday or email me at iancahoon@larnefc.com and I will be more than glad to talk to you.

“Thanks to the great work of Rev Colin McClure and Niall Curneen we held our first every Community Carol Service last month, and we look forward to building on this in the weeks and months ahead.”

We look forward to working with Claire and Ian.
