Chairman’s end of season message

May 6, 2023 | All News

Now that our season has finally reached its conclusion for 2022/23, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every person connected with Larne Football Club for helping play their part in us having such an incredible and memorable campaign both on and off the park.

The results and performances this season are a reward for many years of doing the right things, working hard, sacrificing plenty, attracting the right people and the dedication given by all of these people. Doing what everyone has done and in the way they have done has given so many amazing experiences to remember for a lifetime, and hopefully allow us to enjoy many more of these experiences in the future.

When we began our Premiership season back in August we could not have predicted just how things would eventually unfold, retaining our Co. Antrim Shield for a 3rd year in a row and then following that up with our first ever Gibson Cup in our 134-year history.  Whether we’ve been at home or away we have shared so many memorable moments together, culminating in the incredible scenes we witnessed with a packed house at our final home game against Linfield, and the amazing atmosphere on our final trip to the Coleraine Showgrounds on Saturday.

As Chairman it gives me an immense sense of pride to see so many people come together and be part of this special club and experience so many memorable moments with so many people.  Togetherness and inclusivity have been the foundations on which our club and success has been built.  From inside the dressing room, to the boardroom and on to the terraces together we have kicked every ball, celebrated every goal, and this season in particular, have picked each other up after a few tough results.  That togetherness has been the difference and has been the special ingredient that has set us apart as a club, on and off the pitch.

The success of a football club will always be measured primarily by on field successes and we’re proving that our model and methodologies are working.  We have however achieved so much more than silverware in capturing the hearts and minds of so many people and re-engaging this great town with our club.   Whether its our die-hard fans, or fans that have fallen in love all over again with the club, or for many its a new love affair, the connections and affection that so many now have for our club from across the town and beyond has helped create so many new memories that will never be forgotten.  This is a special time for us as a town regardless of age, gender, beliefs and backgrounds.

Today’s kids will grow up and tell their own children someday about the year Larne reached the qualifying rounds of the Champions League, and show them videos and pictures of the times when the football world became interested in a small town on the East Antrim coast of Northern Ireland who dared to dream.

On behalf of myself, Kenny, and the Directors, I would like to congratulate Tiernan, Seamus, Gary, their backroom staff and the players for their efforts and their dedication.  We are all so proud of the performances and commitment they continually give to Larne Football Club.  This message is indeed replicated to everyone within the Scholarship, Women’s, Academy Boys & Girls set ups. Your efforts continue to go above and beyond and not unnoticed.  We are very grateful for all that you give our club.

Before concluding, I would also like to pay tribute to Kenny Bruce, Niall Curneen, and my fellow Directors for constantly pushing boundaries on where we can take our fantastic club. I also wish to give my heartfelt thanks to the business community and individuals who continue to support and partner us via sponsorship, advertising and hospitality which is invaluable in helping us deliver so much more than just football.

Finally, a massive thank you to our supporters, volunteers, staff, bar staff and stewards, we could not have had such a memorable season without your dedication behind the scenes which has not gone unnoticed.  We cannot wait to start all over again in season 2023/24, we look forward to seeing where our European draw takes us on Tuesday 20th June, we can then start planning to make new memories and dreaming big together.

I hope to see many of you at the Community Day this Sunday 7th May, so we can celebrate our historic achievements this season together.

Have a wonderful summer and I look forward to seeing you all at the electric Inver Park next season.

Warmest Regards

Gareth
