Captain’s Corner: We need your backing on our travels

We caught up with club captain Jeff Hughes ahead of Saturday’s game against Dungannon Swifts at Stangmore Park.

Larne come into the game on the back of a good away performance on Tuesday night, beating Glenavon 1-0 at Mourneview Park.

Speaking on the win over Glenavon in midweek, Jeff said: “I thought the boys played really well. You could tell from the first minute that we wanted to be on the front foot and go for the win, especially after the disappointing performance against Carrick last week.

“It was just one of those games where we needed a bit of a break and thankfully Mitch was able to come up with the answer to secure all three points.”

Looking ahead to the visit to Stangmore Park on Saturday to face Dungannon Swifts, Jeff said: “It will be another tough game. There are no easy games in this league and I think that’s what makes it appealing to supporters.

“Dean (Shiels) has recruited well in the summer and they are a side that like to play football, much like ourselves. It has all the ingredients to be a great match and I hope as many of our supporters as possible can make the journey to get behind the lads out on the pitch.”
