Captain’s Corner: Jeff Hughes

After an impressive start to 2020, we spoke to club captain Jeff Hughes on the Invermen’s winning run and our most recent victory, a 4-0 success over Institute.

Jeff himself scored a brace in that game at the Brandywell. Here’s what he had to say about Saturday and making it seven victories out of our last eight outings: “I thought Saturday was a fantastic result considering the terrible conditions that both sides had to endure.

“To score four goals away from home always sets a team up to win the game and I must give credit to the boys for digging in and putting in a shift. It feels great to finally be turning our performances into results, with our next aim to put a longer run of form together and end our league campaign on a high.

“I must commend the supporters who travelled on Saturday past. In the midst of the bad weather, it would have been easy to sit at home and follow the game on social media, but we travelled in our numbers as always and it really inspired the players knowing that the supporters had made the effort to come and watch. Thank you.”

Next up is the Valentine’s evening trip to Stangmore Park.

“The focus now turns to our next game on Friday night against another in form team in Dungannon Swifts,” he added.

“We have had two tough battles with them this season and expect the same again on Friday. However, the boys are on a high from our recent form and we plan to do all that it takes to keep the run going. Training so far this week has been good, and we will go to Stangmore Park with a game plan which we hope will see us leave with three points in the bag.”

You can see Jeff Hughes and the team in action at Dungannon this Friday night, kick-off 7.45pm. No tickets are required to attend the game, with supporters able to pay at the gate.
