We can confirm that academy player Caleb Sweeney has completed a move to Danish Superliga side Brøndby IF.

The 16-year-old midfielder came through the academy at our Partnership Club, Greenisland FC before making the move to Inver Park in 2024.

Caleb played an integral role with Albert Watson’s NIFL U16 side last season as his ball-playing ability and quality in the middle of the park played a huge part in the side securing the league title.

The young midfielder made his first-team debut for the club at just 15-years-old as he came off the bench to feature in a Co. Antrim Shield victory over Queen’s University at Inver Park.

At international level, Caleb has also featured regularly for the Northern Ireland U16 squad, playing in last season’s Victory Shield for his country.

Technical Director, Kieth O’Hara, is delighted for Caleb on his move to Denmark, stating:

“I’m delighted for Caleb, it’s a fantastic move for him to a big European club.

“The move shows the strength of our academy, alongside the growth of our relationship with our Partnership Club’s, with Caleb having come through the system at Greenisland FC.

“Brondby IF will give Caleb the opportunity to grow and develop further and allow him to reach the next level that we all know he is capable of reaching and I’m excited to follow that journey from afar.

“I wish Caleb nothing but the best of luck on his move to Denmark.”

Speaking on Caleb and his move to Denmark, current Olympic Manager and former NIFL U16 Manager, Albert Watson said:

“He fully deserves the move.

“Caleb is one of the best ball-playing midfielders in the country at his age, who is very comfortable and composed on the ball.

“Caleb joined us from our fantastic Partnership Club in Greenisland FC, and thanks to the fantastic work they had done with his development, he was able to settle quickly and fit right in here at Larne.

“He played a huge role for me as my U16 side won the league title last season and that experience has allowed him to develop all areas of his game further.

“I for one am excited to see what the future holds for Caleb out in Denmark.”
