We are very pleased to announce the signing of 20-year-old goalkeeper Aidan Dowling, following his release from Blackburn Rovers.
The 6’5 shot stopper has spent time at Inver Park during pre-season and has now put pen to paper on a contract to remain at the club and compete with Rohan Ferguson for the number one jersey.
Aidan has spent his career at Ewood Park to date, having arrived at Rovers as a 14-year-old, progressing through to their under-23 side. There were also loan moves along the way, including stints at Marine FC, Lancaster City and Halifax Town.
The Manchester-born player now arrives at Inver Park, ahead of the club’s Champions League debut against HJK Helsinki next week.
After becoming the club’s fifth summer signing, Aidan said: “When this opportunity came up it was a real no-brainer for me to sign.
“I’ve been here for a week or two now and there’s a real good group of lads here and really good quality and the club has everything going for it really.
“I’m quite a traditional goalkeeper. I’m big and try to be strong on crosses and blocks and use my presence. Rohan is a great guy, as is young Rian (Brown) and we have a great goalkeeping coach in Alan Blayney so everything has been a really good standard.”
Larne boss Tiernan Lynch was also pleased to further strengthen his goalkeeping department. He said: “Aidan has spent a few weeks with us now and that gave us a chance to see what he would bring to the group.
“He is another player who has been used to the professional environment since he was young and he knows the standards we set as a group and he sets individually.
“It’s another piece in the jigsaw that we are building for both Europe and our league season and we are very pleased to officially bring Aidan to the club.”
Aidan has been assigned the number 28 shirt this season.
